Teen age can never be the right age of pregnancy. They are not physically and mentally prepared for it and at the same time are unaware of the risk involved with teen pregnancy. Being a parent your concern is absolutely right, you wouldn’t want your child to be suffering with the difficulties of being a parent at a young age. You can help your child by communicating with your child and educating her about the problems related to unprotected sex leading to pregnancy. You can also educate her about contraception’s or birth control. A few tips are given below to

help you talk to your adolescent.

Educate your child about teen pregnancy
Not all schools but a number of schools educate students about the reproductive system and how does reproduction takes place. This is the best way of educating teen age kids about the physical changes their body is going through. However you wouldn’t know how much your child knows about pregnancy and pregnancy related problems in teenage. The best way to know about it is talking to your child. Talking to your child over these topics might make you feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable. However talking little over the topic will make your child and you both comfortable discussing about it. Parents and teachers can be the best guide for kids and hence the child should be comfortable enough with both.

Your child should be aware of birth control measures
Your child is growing, however is not aware of the birth control measures and its importance. There are a number of birth control measures available; however they have their

own good and bad effects. Don’t forget your child is growing into an adult and might choose to be sexually active; it might be difficult to stop your child in such situation. Now you need to educate your child about birth control measures. Your child’s school will just educate her about the reproduction and the reproductive system; however will not educate her about birth control measures. The responsibility comes on to you. Talk to your child about its importance.

Keep your teenager supervised
Though your teenager would want complete freedom, you need to give it to her, yet know about her activities. Your teenager asking for freedom is not abnormal as she feels she is an adult and can manage herself. You still need to know where your child is going. You need to know her friends and their families. By doing this you are simply assuring your child’s security. You also need to make sure that the party your child attends is supervised by at least one adult. Of course keep talking regularly to your teenager about teen pregnancy and birth control.

You can also keep your child occupied with after school activities, which is under adult supervision, to keep your teenager away from teen sex and problems related to it. Engross your child in activities or hobbies she is interested in to keep her diverted. Be a friend to your child and also share your experiences.
